PC won't recognise high-capacity CD-Rs

I have just installed a CD writer on my computer. It's working fine, but when I insert 700MB discs they are recognised as 642MB by the software I use. Can you recommend any programs that support 700MB discs?

High-capacity CD-Rs aren't that much of a rarity, so first ensure that the software you already use really doesn't support 700MB discs. You may have just failed to find the option to enable the extra capacity. It's also possible that the software is showing you the capacity available when the disc is used for multisession recording. You lose more than 50MB of a CD-R for housekeeping information when you use it for multisession writing.

If your software is at fault, though, Nero Burning ROM (www.ahead.de) is a very popular application. Nero can even let you 'overburn' up to 800MB of data on a disc if your drive and media support it.
